I’ve observed that most work stress comes from two sources:
- You feel trapped as if you have no options
- You find yourself in a situation you don’t know how to handle
You’re rarely really trapped. You have options. You can
- Speak up
- Look for other positions or employers
When you don’t know how to hands a situation, you can learn how to handle them. Learn away your stress. Hate conflict–learn how to handle it. Need to speak up for yourself more–learn negotiation and assertive communication. You get the idea. Look at your list of things you dislike about your job, and learn what you need to learn to improve them. Sound easy? It will take time, but the payoff is worth it.
